Mailserver replacement of exchange

Ya know the only problem with Sendmail and IMAP is the scheduling of
deleted items. I could never find/implemint a good mechanism for deleting
users 'deleted items'. (I'm not the brightest person :-) Otherwise any
IMAP client connected to Sendmail through IMAP works great. As everything
would be local (Mailscanner,Sendmail etc..) you could publish a folder
everyone put missed spam in and run salearn on that folder.

I have found a product called Scalix (www.scalix.com) It is not free but
it is very reasonable in cost and it is a drop in replacement for
exchange. It runs on Linux using sendmail as it's base.

Does anyone has a good alternative for MS exchange (groupware) in the
opensource world? If it is possible an outlook client must be able to
connect to it.

thanks Koen
