Serious problems running Mailscanner

The original problem never did get fixed.

 I sent a few emails to the list and tried all the suggestions,
including reinstalling everything including the whole box till I was
blue in the face and still nothing.

The box is a virtual pc, running under UML and sat on a dual xeon host
machine (I use bytemark hosting)

I didn't understand it either, but at that point I was past caring as
long as it stopped losing mail!

I'm glad you managed to fix it, if only I'd tried that at the start...
