no spam checks from *one* server?

Which MTA are you using?

I use POstfix and we have an outbound mailscanner machine and an inbound 
  one. OUr outbound one send plenty of mail to our inbound one at the 
moment while we develop a better plan for mail routing.

I have simply added an entry to header_checks to stop messages from our 
outbound server from being sent to the hold queue for mailscanner to scan.
