Because each of the MailScanner child processes forks off sub-processes to
do all sorts of things with timeouts.

Have you checked your virus.scanners.conf file like it says?
It's in the same directory as your MailScanner.conf file. Do you have a
virus.scanners.conf.rpmnew file? If so, rename it over your
virus.scanners.conf file, but make sure you copy into the new file any
changes you had to make.
