maillog.1 taking alot of space

maillog.* are rotated mail logs, meaning they have been put
aside and a new maillog has been created.  They are left
there in case you need to refer back to them (and you will).

They are not used by MailScanner directly (ms writes to
maillog, or more correctly, the mail syslog facility)
so yes you can delete them, but if they are HUGE you
might want to take a look in them to see if you have
a lot of repeating error messages that might need your
attention.

If they are HUGE, take a look at them and figure
out why.  If you simply have a small file system,
consider adding more space for your log directory.
