Ping doesn't connect to port 25 either. It's a different protocol
altogether. Ping uses ICMP whereas SMTP uses TCP. DNS most often uses
UDP. Ping can't be altogether relied on to determine connectivity with a
host as it might be blocking ICMP traffic.
