Ugo mentioned several ways of getting those logs, I get them from our
monitoring servers that connect every five minutes to see if the smtp
service is available, it drops the connection when satisfied. You can
create such a log yourself by issuing "telnet localhost 25" and typing
"quit" immediately after the MTA answers.

Ping does not connect to 53/tcp, it's a completely different mechanism.

Who is machinename [10.10.8.103]? That would be a good start.
