procmailrc question

I am currently running MailScanner with SpamAssassin 3.0.1 on Red Hat Linux
3.0 as my primary mail server for about 2,000 PCs  with great results.
I have some experience with Linux.  I am working with Linux more.
My question is would using procmailrc be a benefit to SPAM filtering along
with MailScanner and SpamAssassin or is it for sorting email?  I don't need
to sort the email I am just interested in good SPAM filtering.
