Julian,

You'd need to make user 500 a member of group 501 and then you'd be able to
do 'chgrp 501 hello'.

Regards,
Steve.

I can't change the group or the owner:

[sysjkf at tinker tmp]$ ls -ln
total 0
-rw-rw-r-- 1 500 500 0 Nov 6 16:56 hello
-rw-rw-r-- 1 500 500 0 Nov 6 16:56 there
[sysjkf at tinker tmp]$ chgrp 501 hello
chgrp: changing group of `hello': Operation not permitted [sysjkf at tinker
tmp]$ chown 501 hello
chown: changing ownership of `hello': Operation not permitted

Group 501 exists, as does user 501.
So all I can set is the umask.

What do you want to be able to set the umask on?
About all I can do is the incoming directory and the quarantine directory.
I'll make sure the sub-directories are set appropriately too so if you get
rw-r--r-- on the files, you will get rwxr-xr-x on the sub-dirs.

Incoming Work Umask = 0600
Quarantine Umask = 0600

Those would be the default values.
I will insist on them being octal so that "man 2 chmod" explains the
settings.

Can someone write me a brief description of how to construct a sensible
number depending on what you want to do (kind of summary docs in 5 - 10
lines) so I can put it in the MailScanner.conf file.

Is this okay, and still worth it?
