Yes, see my earlier post about urpmi on mandrake (and mirroring the ftp
directory with fmirror).

One other thing I like about urpmi is you can set it up so that you can
install updates remotely to other machines in parallel over ssh (just
need to install a public key on the remote machine.  IIRC the command
is...

urpmi --parallel alias-for-remote-machine
