Paul,

The first thing I'd check if selinux. It's in 'enforcing' by default. 
Try disable it by changing /etc/selinux/config SELINUX=enforcing to 
SELINUX=disabled (then reboot).

The second place to check is firewall/iptables. Run 'iptables -L -v'.
