clamd lstat error

Ubuntu 16.04 with clamav-daemon 0.101.4.

Lint test is giving the error below;
Clamd::ERROR:: UNKNOWN CLAMD RETURN ./lstat() failed: Permission denied.

In mailscanner.conf I have;
Run As User = postfix
Run As Group = postfix
Incoming Work User = clamav
Incoming Work Group = mtagroup

clamdscan will only work with the --fdpass option

# clamdscan --fdpass /home/george
/home/george: OK

I've seen some threads saying that I need to change
AllowSupplementaryGroups from false to true in the file
/etc/clamav/clamd.conf.  But that setting has been deprecated. WARNING:
Ignoring deprecated option AllowSupplementaryGroups

Anyone get this to work?
