Errors filling up /var/log/messages

Check your settings to make sure MailScanner is writing your PID to a directory that exists. (/var/run/MailScanner.pid is best to use.) If the PID cannot be created because you are using something like /var/run/MailScanner/MailScanner.pid, then the cron that checks MailScanner will start a new instance every hour. Pretty soon you are running a ton of MailScanner processes and run out of memory and then ClamAV cannot start or have memory to operate if it is started.
