Old age hits again - can't remember or find how to test a user...

Sorry to say all, I'm trying to find out why a user in the whitelist 
rule file wasn't whitelisted, and I can't remember how to test a user by 
command line to verify they should be whitelisted. Not able to find it 
in the wiki either since I must not be typing the right stuff.

Can someone please tell me the format I use to do this from the command 
line?
