Note:  I was still seeing some of these after applying the above fix.  
It turns out that I also had to remove the spamassassin cache used by 
MailScanner.  I issued the following while MailScanner was down.

 > rm -fr /var/spool/MailScanner/incoming/SpamAssassin*
