I suggest you start by investigating why there is a significant increase
in the amount of spam. Then you would have some idea of which strategy
would be best.
I would recommend to block dialup clients for example if you have the
ability. Depending on the sort of communication you have it may or may
not be a good possibility to loose a lot spam.
