MailScanner 4.88.5-3 not being invoked by sendmail

I'm not sure I understand your question.  I know that sendmail must be 
started by MailScanner.  I use the init startup script to control the 
process---MailScanner starts, then sendmail.

I don't start/stop sendmail outside of this script. The script was 
supplied as part of the MailScanner package.
