Virus scanning hanging?

On a sidenote, I had a lot of problems with BitDefender 7.0. I found 7.1 and 
it was much better, until this week that is. I disabled it on a busy box until 
I can trace why it is slow. It always uses close to 100% CPU, but it used to 
be done in a few seconds. This week I had processes sticking around for 5 to 
10 minutes.
