Not necessary.  I leave it at its default value of "en_US.UTF-8" and 
have no problem.  I will sometimes do an "export LANG=C" before 
compiling stuff, though...

I also use re-mqueue to move slow-moving emails to slower queues but you 
have to accept the fact that it's probably not using the same locking 
mechanism as sendmail's.  Sendmail now uses POSIX locking while 
re-mqueue (and qtool) seem to still use flock.
