Mailscanner 4.54.6 on FreeBSd 6.1 not working

I have never used the install-Clam-SA.tar.gz,
but does that not install in /opt?
Are you now mixing two different installations?
You may want to get rid of one of them.
If you can. My experience is only with the port. Sorry.
