OK.  Although I'm piggy-in-the-middle, unaffected by this problem, I'm
attempting to get it raised with the Sys::Syslog folk.

Steve Swaney (or someone else): Could you provide me with a concise
description of the problem (and relevant OS environments) about this
Sys::Syslog 0.17 problem, please?  Thanks.  (Am I correct in understanding
that this problem was new at 0.17?)
