The 220 IMHO cannot be followed by anything. Quoting RFC 821:
***************************************
4.2.1. REPLY CODES BY FUNCTION GROUPS
[cut]
220 <domain> Service ready
***************************************
And:
***************************************
Note: all the greeting type replies have the official name of
the server host as the first word following the reply code.
***************************************
I'm not sure if milter-sender is very strict about it, I will have to check the source code (which I will do later).
