Odd behaviour with nested sendmail queues (bug?)

I want to ask what you need from me to debug the following issue:


When my mqueue.in is nested into xf/df/qf Mailscanner stable as well as the
latest beta pick up the files without any problems.

However, sometimes the MailScanner log shows these entries:

allmessages:Feb 11 12:06:54 dragon MailScanner[30501]: Could not open file
|/var/spool/mqueue/df/dfj1B091Zw032193: No such file or directory
allmessages:Feb 11 12:06:54 dragon MailScanner[30501]: Cannot create + lock
clean body /var/spool/mqueue/df/dfj1B091Zw032193

Naturally that is not possible because my outgoing mqueue is not nested. This
is usually read correctly and then applied in the correct manner, namely
writing everything into mqueue.

Trying to work around this following behaviour is being observed.

When I create the subdirectories df qf xf in the mqueue directory, the df file
is written into the /df subdirectly but the corresponding qf files is written
into mqueue itself. This of course confuses sendmail and that message is never
delivered.

As I said this only happens for some messages, I cannot pintpoint why. What
would you need to further debug this? As I have seen this behaviour in Stable
and recent unstable I believe it is a "bug".

Locking for my sendmail is FLOCK and that is working peachy when my mqueue.in
is not nested.

The MailScanner processes defunc with such a message present. The full log
conversation for such a message looks like this:
