Upgrade question

I am currently running MailScanner 4.29.7 with spamassassin 2.64 on a non-RPM box (sparc64 actually, running Gentoo Linux) and would like to upgrade to the latest version of MS.  This is probably a wide open question, but is there anything in particular I need to look out for?
