MailScanner and the _real_ envelope-sender address

We are running MS 4.30.2-1 with Sendmail 8.12.10.
We have MS configured to "deliver attachment". The boiler plate text
from the "inline.spam.warning.txt" is modified slightly. It asks users
to forward the message to an address here if it was incorrectly tagged
as spam and the recipient wants it whitelisted.
I rely on the "From:" address in the text included from the
"inline.spam.warning.txt" file to be the envelope-sender address to use
when whitelisting.
I also assumed that the address in the X-MailScanner-From: header is the
same as the above; that is, it is also the envelope-sender address.
However when I compare the address given in the "X-MailScanner-From:"
header to the "from=..." address in the corresponding Sendmail log file
record, they differ.
What am I missing here? I view the Sendmail "from=..." address as the
true envelope-sender address. It will be a pain if I have to look up
Sendmail logs in order to verify the envelope-sender address every time
I want to whitelist a message source.
I had hoped I could reply on the X-MailScanner-From: header address and
the "inline.spam.warning.txt" "From:" address being the same.
