the file location should be /etc/sysconfig/i18n not /etc/sysconfig.i18n

to change the lines:

LANG="en_US.UTF-8"
SUPPORTED="en_US.UTF-8:en_US:en"

To:
LANG="en_US"
SUPPORTED="en_US.UTF-8:en_US:en"
