The MailScanner.pid file just contains the process number of the parent
process. It's a common way of knowing which process to terminate in a
start/stop script.

Is MS running? Check with "ps -ef | grep Mail".

If it is, kill the lowest process number with "kill xxx" (xxx is the
number of course).

Wait 10 seconds and then try the start script again.
