A few months ago, both Julian and I were in contact with the author (a
three-way email discussion). From that, we understand that the author
would be willing for someone else to adopt it.
My guess is that the work to adopt it would involve a fairly steep
learning curve, and that there could be significant maintenance as new
"features" in various behaviours/interpretations of MIME become known (and
potentially exploitable). So the task may not be trivial, but could be a
stimulating challenge to the right person.
My personal view is that someone (or a small group) from the MailScanner
user-base would be an appropriate new custodian of MIME-Tools. (If anyone
is seriously interested, I'd be happy to let them see those discussions
from that time.)
