Makes me wonder...
Could we build a small list of a couple of items that are the most asked on the list and put them in evidence on the web site (as well as in the faq system if they're not).
I'd say:
-How to upgrade
-Where to configure spamassassin
-What are the plugins and what do they do (DCC, Pyzor, Mailwatch and so on)
-Where to download and get the sigs
-How are updated the AV?
-What are the optimization tips:
-tempfs
-local dns
-no sync on logs
-special SA rules
-A list of the setup of people on this list hardware vs messages/day, to help people choose hardware
-How to debug and how to interpret the output
-...
Another idea would be to send to new subscribers or even periodically on this list a code of conduct that would contain:
- The previous stuff, maybe, but more importantly:
- What info to provide in an post:
- **logs**
- **descriptive** explanation of the problem (not just "I installed and it doesn't work")
- description of the server (os, config, installed software) and the setup (mail gateway or not...)
- ...
I volunteer to do some of the work, since I'm sorry to see Julian take some of his very precious time to answer those questions. He does it in a very professionnal and kind manner, but his time could be used better elsewhere.
What do you people think? Any other ideas?
Thanks,
Ugo
