Could not read Custom Functions directory

I am setting up MailScanner on RH ES3 with MailWatch and all appears to
be working, but I get this error in the maillog for every MailScanner
process as it starts.
The MailWatch function loads, and works, so I don't think it is the
cause, but I am not sure what this actually indicates and where to start
looking.

In the /usr/lib/MailScanner/MailScanner directory there is
drwxr-xr-x    2 root     root         4096 Jun 23 09:04 CustomFunctions
The MailScanner process is running as root

Any information on what this error is telling me and how to correct will
be greatly appreciated!!
