Those of us in California are aware the California covers most of the west
coast of USA.  Those of us in Oregon pity those poor ignorant souls down in
California (but we don't want them in Oregon, either).

Oregon and Washington states are the Pacific Northwest (because no one in
USA thinks Canada really exists), but the northern 1/3 or 1/2 of California
are often considered part of that area on ecological and environmental grounds.
