As the subject line suggests.

Over the last 2 to 3 months I've noticed an increasing number of what could
best be described as dumb or lazy questions.
This is probably a reflection of how popular MS has become and is one of the
downsides of its success.

Before you post to the list you may want to do the following, as it will
ensure that you get a better response and generally don't annoy others:

1. Read: http://www.catb.org/~esr/faqs/smart-questions.html
A lot of people assume that we all have ESP and somehow *know* which
versions you are using and which platform you are running on

2. Read the MAQ. It covers a LOT of beginners' questions. Nobody is claiming
that it is going to answer all of your questions, but it is a very good
starting point

3. Consult the FAQ. As above.

4. RTFM. MailScanner is extremely well-documented, both within the
configuration files, on the site and in the manual available at
http://www.fsl.com/support/MailScanner-Manual-Version-1.0.1.pdf Although it
is written primarily for RPM based systems it also provides a thorough
overview of how things work "under the hood".

5. Mailing list archive. It's there. Use it.

6. HTML emails. They are a pain in the neck. Please don't use them. If you
don't know how to get your MUA to send plain text you shouldn't really be
adminning mail for anybody else.

7. Quoting/Snipping. Outlook is not the best of MUAs, you can "improve it"
by using something like:

8. Urgency. People on mailing lists contribute their time and experience.
They are not being paid to help you, so posting "URGENT" is not going to get
you a faster response.

In case anybody is grossly offended this is not aimed at anyone in
particular, so taking personal offence is non-productive.
