since everyone's throwing in his favorite variant of caching dns I'd like
to mention dnsmasq. If you need a fast, highly configurable, low
foot-print dns cache it's the right thing to use. Most Linux distro's come
with a package of it, but it also compiles painlessly. It's also in use in
a lot of gateway and firewall "appliances".
