Weird Problems trying to start MailScanner for first time

Hi All
 
I have a number of very successful MailScanner servers, but this new
server is giving me problems. I am receiving the following error:

This is perl, v5.8.5 built for i686-linux

I have 

This error is found after installing from the tar.gz version on Gentoo
with the latest stable and beta versions (As of 22/12/2004). I have even
copied over an install of 4.35.11 from an existing server (also running
Gentoo). I have also tried re-emerging perl on the system with no luck.
Also I have used CPAN to manually install all required modules, and
searched on the mailscanner list archive, google and gentoo forums :(

Please contact me privately should you require a log of the installation
from install.sh

Can anyone assist me here? I am at my wits end :(
