| But i am not sure why we invited the problem ? Is there a permanent
| fix for this ? Will this be a recurring issue ? Do i have to cron a
| script to blow away the lock files and rebulid bayes DB every hour
| or something ?
|
| we upgraded from 2.64 to 3.01 spamassassin and MailScanner to
| version 4.35.11.1
|
| What might have possibly went wrong or is everyone else seeing
| this?
|
| also we moved the bayes_path from /root/.spamassasin to
| /etc/MailScanner/bayes (Yes we are using mailwatch for stats)
|
| Any pointers would be much appreciated.

i found that killing SA when it was in the process of writing to the
dB can leave a lock hanging around. you can try using the "journal"
feature which writes updates to the journal 1st before updating bayes dB.

which brings up another problem i noticed, on busy servers sometimes
trying to stop MS a few processes are left running. i usually grow
impatient and run the stop command again (which kills them) but i'm
concerned that it may interfere with MS starting again?

BOFH excuse #380: The cause of the problem is: Robotic tape changer
mistook operator's tie for a backup tape.
