Mailscanner halting on multi-part mime, and separately, few children running?

Is it possible to have MailScanner jump over a problem message, or move it to a "bad queue" instead of failing on it?  Also, I see that there is only one child process running though I have set the max to 10, I have a very low load, approximately 2 messages / minute.  Is this indicative of a problem, or normal idle behavior?  That sounds like good fodder for a FAQ
