Could you make it clear exactly why you need to restart MailScanner.
Are you changing something in the configuration automatically or
something?

Is it the MailScanner processes or the MTA you want to restart.  I'd
have thought it unlikely you'd want to stop all 3.  If its MailScanner
why isn't a reload sufficient  (you could do that simply by sending a
HUP signal to all MS processes.
