If you want to know if disk I/O is the problem, run 

#vmstat 5
It will give you stats about your system, every 5 seconds.
Then look carefully at the second column (b), this tells you how many processed are blocked by I/O operations.

It's a RAID 5 array, its not exactly slow or limited.
