I just installed MS 4.04-1, and this seems to have fixed the problem.  I
also
did the test with sophos-autoupdate, and it seems to work fine.  My crontab
for root has the line:

01 08 * * *     /opt/MailScanner/lib/sophos-autoupdate >>
/var/log/sophos 2>&1

Should be OK(?).
