Have just moved my test box to production and have been having problems with
the server not listening on SMTP.
In my daemon.log I have
Dec 17 07:35:57 uadspa01 inetd[173]: smtp/tcp server failing (looping),
service terminated
Dec 17 07:46:50 uadspa01 inetd[173]: smtp/tcp server failing (looping),
service terminated
Dec 17 07:57:35 uadspa01 inetd[173]: smtp/tcp server failing (looping),
service terminated
Dec 17 08:08:16 uadspa01 inetd[173]: smtp/tcp server failing (looping),
service terminated
Dec 17 08:19:00 uadspa01 inetd[173]: smtp/tcp server failing (looping),
service terminated
Dec 17 08:29:38 uadspa01 inetd[173]: smtp/tcp server failing (looping),
service terminated
Dec 17 08:40:34 uadspa01 inetd[173]: smtp/tcp server failing (looping),
service terminated
Dec 17 08:51:30 uadspa01 inetd[173]: smtp/tcp server failing (looping),
service terminated
Dec 17 09:03:30 uadspa01 inetd[173]: smtp/tcp server failing (looping),
service terminated
Dec 17 09:14:03 uadspa01 inetd[173]: smtp/tcp server failing (looping),
service terminated
I have changed the number of connections exim is allowed in inetd.conf from
default(40) to 500
and this seems to have fixed the problem
smtp stream tcp nowait.500 mail /usr/sbin/exim exim
-bs
Can this be put in the documentation for other poor fools like me?
