Help: SpamAssassin timed out and was killed

thank Julian, I thought I had switched the RBL checks off (its done through
but I had missed out the option.

I suspect one of the RBL checks it does is taking too long. Have you tried
increasing the SA timeout value (currently 10 seconds)?
