Subject: Uninstalling packages MailScanner installer installed

I installed MailScanner on my Ubuntu Server 18.04 and shortly after 
because deciding to install amavisd-new, I removed all the packages dpkg 
-I MailScanner-5.0.7-3-noarch.deb showed as recommended packages and of 
course the MailScanner package itself. I saw that the installer 
installed a lot of packages. I would like to get rid of them, do you 
have a list what packages the installer installs? Help is much 
appreciated.

When you installed MailScanner, the install.sh script created the file
mailscanner-install.log This log will show you everything that was
installed.

Of course I don't have the file no more, but thanks for the info, I'll

I am running Ubuntu Server 18.04 and Postfix. I am trying to get rid of 
MailScanner.

I get these lines in /var/log/mail.err
(After removing MailScanner)

Just a wild guess, but look in your /etc/spamassassin directory and see if there is a dead link to the .cf file that MailScanner installs.

Maybe try doing a dpkg-reconfigure postfix too?

Probably not the best idea but decided that I would upgrade my MailScanner and system as it hadn?t been touched in a number of years.

 

Install went ok for Mailscanner however its refusing to start.

Which version did you upgrade to? - MailScanner-5.0.7-3
Which Operating System is it running under? - Linux
Which version of the system were you running previously? - Fedora 25
Which version have you upgraded the system to? - Fedora 28

I mainly just moved everything yesterday to a current version as you can see everything that was there was out of support.

/usr/local/share/perl5/Archive/Zip.pm is a perl module and when perl
attempts to load it, it can't find
'/usr/local/lib64/perl5/auto/Compress/Raw/Zlib/Zlib.so'.

There is some problem with the perl installation. Perhaps
Compress::Raw::Zlib is not properly installed even though the module
checks said it was OK.

HI Mark,

Thanks - I did try and remove the module after the failure and let the
MailScanner install script install it again for me. No Luck

It seems the issue may be that although the perl modules are installed,
the underlying Zlib.so library is not found.

See <https://rpmfind.net/linux/rpm2html/search.php?query=zlib> for a
list of fedora 28 and other rpms for various architectures.

Hi, 

I have seen this type of problem before. 

Check wether Zlib.so is present on your system 

find / -name Zlib.so 

If nothing is found try 

find / -name "Zlib.so*" 

You might need to create a symbolic link for things to work. Please also take a look at the permissions of the file

What is the filepermission on that file? 

On my system it is: 

# ls -l /usr/lib64/perl5/auto/Compress/Raw/Zlib/Zlib.so 
-rwxr-xr-x. 1 root root 94304 Mar 22 2017 /usr/lib64/perl5/auto/Compress/Raw/Zlib/Zlib.so 


try 

chmod 755 /usr/lib64/perl5/auto/Compress/Raw/Zlib/Zlib.so

I changed the one that MailScanner appeared to be calling at /usr/local/lib64/perl5/auto/Compress/Raw/Zlib/Zlib.so

The u+w doesn't matter.

It thinks the file isn't there. Make sure that every directory in the
path is ugo+x

Check /etc/MailScanner/defaults and make sure the run line is set to 1:
  run_mailscanner=1

Might not be your problem, but it bit me a while back.  The defaults file installed during the upgrade was set to 0.

Just wondering whether I could get some pointers.

Probably not the best idea but decided that I would upgrade my MailScanner and system as it hadn?t been touched in a number of years.

Install went ok for Mailscanner however its refusing to start.

Its looking like a perl module from what I can see. Installer had no issues with the module checks

Convert::TNEF => OK
Etc..

Any thoughts or pointers would be appreciated.

That link is specifically for cPanel. If you arer using cPanel, we
probably can't help with their front end UI.

For MailScanner, you can do this easily with a rule set. In your
MailScanner config you put

Scan Messages = %rules-dir%/scan.messages.rules

and then in the file scan.messages.rules in MailScanner's rules
directory you put things like

To: user1 at example.com no
To: user2 at example.com no
To: user3 at example.com no
FromOrTo: default yes

with the actual addresses of the accounts you don't want to scan.

  There is a user who receives numerous emails from their clients with attached files, however because of the name of those files the emails are being rejected.

  We have already deactivated the mailscanner scan, but it continues to block.

  Note: When the file has \".pdf.pdf\" in the end the Mail Scanner does not block, but when it only exists with \".pdf\" the message is blocked.

  Below is the error message.

Consider renaming the files to avoid this constraint.

Our doubt is: this value of 200, is the number of recipients to whom it sends? If it sends 5 messages with 20 recipients, will the value of 200 per hour be reached?

If it is your domain and your limit,it would seem that only you can answer that.

In any case, MailScanner doesn't count recipients.

With the latest build of MailScanner, filename rules seem to no longer work
as intended. 

filename.rules:

FromOrTo:       domain1.net  /etc/MailScanner/frules/domain1.net.fn.conf
FromOrTo:       domain2.es        /etc/MailScanner/frules/domain2.es.fn.conf
FromOrTo:       adomain3.eu       /etc/MailScanner/frules/domain3.eu.fn.conf


Each file contains the filename rules. here is the .exe rule:

deny    \.exe$   -       -

And it allows .exe files to pass. Before you ask, yes, tabs are used. This
is on a Mailborder server and they have been building these rules for years.


Any ideas?

Could be connected some how with uprade from 5.0.7.2?

I use ./install.sh -update to run upgrade

I recently upgrade to MailScanner v5.0.7-3. i've got it running on CentOS
with ClamAV, postfix and spamassassin.

when i run the ClamAv update it reports:

WARNING: Your ClamAV installation is OUTDATED!
WARNING: Local version: 0.99.4 Recommended version: 0.100.0
DON'T PANIC! Read http://www.clamav.net/documents/upgrading-clamav

latest and the greatest when originally installed via MailSanner?

MailScanner uses your distribution's repositories to install ClamAV.
Update it according to your distro's update procedures.

Most likely you are running clam via the epel repo.  They aren?t super quick about pushing the newest clam out to the repo.  I used the version from repoforge for a long time but they were dreadful about pushing clam out and are basically defunct.



It will get pushed, don?t worry about the warning messages, and consider running additional AV engines just because you can.
