MS call SA directly, via the perl function, yes.
Verify if you have thevstandard symbolic link with:
ls -l /etc/mail/spamassassin/mailscanner.cf
If not present, create it with some tävling like:
ln -s /path/to/spam.assassim.prefs.conf /etc/mail/spamassassin/
mailscanner.cf
... where you replace /path/to/ with the files actual location on your
system.
