It is always recommended to use the version that comes with your distro. This makes upgrading and maintenance much easier.
I have 5.7 on several machines and the distro version has no issues.

Subject: Spamassassin usability

Just wondering about the default Spamassassin that is installed with
CentOS 5.7:

It's version 3..3.1-2, which is the same as what's listed in the easy
install package on the website. Is there any difference in this package
and what comes with Centos?

Any reason not to use the Centos package until I need to update?

Thanks
