Slow outgoing mail queue.

Paul,

Mail sitting in the outbound mail queue is not usually a MailScanner problem.

When MailScanner finishes scanning, it passes the message back to sendmail for delivery. Only if sendmail can’t deliver the message immediately does sendmail place the message in the outbound retry mail queue.

You can see what’s in the outbound deferred mail queue by running:

	mailq

That should show output similar to:

		/var/spool/mqueue (1 request)
-----Q-ID----- --Size-- -----Q-Time----- ------------Sender/Recipient-----------
p1IF3cOE000800     5124 Fri Feb 18 10:03 MAILER-DAEMON
                 (Deferred: Connection timed out with mail.xxxxsupport.com)
					 <Newsalert at xxxxSupport.com>

There should be a line for each message that shows the reason why the message delivery has been deferred.

Best regards,

Steve
