Yum Upgrade on CentOS 5.3 failing On Perl

I'd rather not do the reinstall unless I've finished the yum update.  
It's not *supposed* to be a big deal, just a convenience.
I'm thinking the "reinstall" thing is like a "case" statement, this  
should just be an additional case, right? no big deal?
