Testing update_virus_scanners is working?

Just done an update from Centos 5.2 to 5.3 and then to the latest
MailScanner.  I want to be sure the update_virus_scanners script in
/etc/cron.hourly is actually working, but when I run it nothing seems to
happen or be logged to /var/log/maillog.

How can I confirm it's working (barring just waiting and seeing if my
definitions eventually get updated)?
