I recall that I have once done a Centos 4 to Centos 5 upgrade by just
picking up the version package and let yum take care of the rest

But that was just a proof of concept. Centos 4 will be receiving updates
for quite a while. Unlike the unworkable schedule you are forced to with
Fedora.
