Yes.  The delay issue seems to have solved itself-- odd.  Now:

postfix at linux-p7d8:~> /usr/sbin/MailScanner -debug
In Debugging mode, not forking...

Any idea what would cause this?  I built the clamav from the tarball 
provided at mailscanner.info.
