They are not the only ones lately doing that. I have seen it from several places lately myself.

Hi List

Is anyone else who uses Nolisting having a problem receiving mail from
aol.com?

Since late last week anyone who mails us from an aol.com gets a bounce
message after 3 hours, saying

"Deferred: Connection timed out with serlx01.essex.ac.uk.
Message could not be delivered for 3 hours
Message will be deleted from queue"

Serlx01 is our highest-priority MX record, on which we always reject.

This looks to me as though AOL are not moving on to our lower-priority
MX records, but retrying the highest-priority for 3 hours, then giving
up completely.

Alan
